About the exhibitions
Our two-room gallery will showcase dual exhibitions. In the front gallery, Nur Aishah Kenton and Shelley Xue present Returning, a collaborative exhibition between the two artists exploring the act of revisiting one’s motherland, where the notion of home is shaped by both continuity and change.
In the back gallery, Ilsa Wynne-Hoelscher presents her project 12 MOONS that reconsiders photographic representations of birth through a photographic series with documentary focus on twelve Australian homebirths across twelve lunar cycles. Wynne-Hoelscher’s exhibition coincides with the launch of her 220 page photobook of the same title, published by local imprint Look Both Ways
About the artists
Nur Aishah Kenton is a Singapore-born, Malay-Australian photographer, artist, and educator whose practice is grounded in collaboration and community engagement. Working across photography, archival materials, and installation, Aishah uses participatory methods to create spaces for dialogue, shared authorship, and collective storytelling.
Shelley Xue is a Naarm/Melbourne-based arts worker, artist and photographer from Guangdong, China. Her practice engages photography, personal objects, family archives as ways of remembering, reconnecting, and reflecting on family/home.
Ilsa Wynne-Hoelscher is an Australian contemporary photographic artist, filmmaker and publisher whose practice explores the intersections of documentary photography, material culture and visual storytelling. Working across long-form photographic projects, photobooks and exhibitions, she investigates themes of memory, ritual, embodiment and the ways photography shapes our understanding of lived experience.
